Welcome to Art Basil Kirsten’s favorite day of the year

The Garden

Outside are six hundred basil plants. The walls are covered in colourful watercolour paintings with stylized-basil designs. Varieties of lemon basil, thai basil, genovese basil, globe basil, purple basil, dwarf basil, tulsi basil, and several hybrid species. Starting in January of 2022 Kirsten began growing basil plants from seed. First in an office using grow lamps, and later outside in homemade bokashi compost and donated 5lb coffee bags.

At the table Kirsten has made several buckets of pesto for you. If you can find the basil bartender you can also procure a basil cocktail. You are encouraged to pick and eat leaves from the plants as you roam the outdoors. As the sun sets Kirsten will make you pots of lemon basil tea.

Out on the roof Kirsten made a flat, sprawling,15ft by 30ft colourful basil painting made from watercolour paint and oil pastel on yupo plastic. You are invited to take off your shoes and lie down upon the painting.

Some paintings demand reverence and others demand play.

Why?

In May of 2020 Kirsten developed an overwhelming desire to grow basil plants that has not yet abated.
