Corporeal Mime

Kirsten Tingle is a classically trained corporeal mime. From January 2015 - May 2018 she studied Etienne Decroux technique and post-modern mime under Thomas Leabhart. She has performed at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Kyoto Arts Centre, Theatre de Terre, dA Center for Art, and in numerous mime showcases in Pomona College's Theatre department. Kirsten has worked as a movement research assistant to Professor Leabhart at corporeal mime workshops in Spain, France, and Japan.

Beginning with a single found object Kirsten builds a movement sequence based around the feel, function, weight, and quality of the object. After building a movement kata she adds text, following the corporeal mime philosophy of rehearsing the piece before knowing what it is about. Text and movement are combined and synthesized by the audience who are free to decide the meaning of the combination for themselves.
